On May 17, 2022, the Dedham-Westwood Water District Commissioners voted to accept a provision of Massachusetts General Law (MGL) Chapter 200A relative to the District’s disposition of abandoned funds.
MGL Chapter 200A, §9A provides an alternative procedure for disposing of abandoned funds, known as tailings, held in the custody of the District. Tailings can include uncashed accounts payable checks, uncashed payroll checks, and certain bill overpayments where the property owner cannot be found. Adopting this statute allows for a more efficient and expedited process for the disposing of abandoned funds.
