Fire Hydrant Flow/Fire Pump Test Procedures & Policy

  • All hydrant flow/fire pump tests MUST BE REQUESTED ONLINE via the District’s website. All tests MUST BE PAID FOR IN ADVANCE before a test date/time is scheduled. Once a request is submitted online, the District will contact you to schedule an appointment.
  • Test Fee:
    • $400 (per test)
    • The District accepts payment for hydrant flow/fire pump tests by check or money order Please BE SURE TO INCLUDE a reference to the property address on your check.
    • Please make checks payable to the Dedham-Westwood Water District, or DWWD.

  • The following information is REQUIRED to receive an appointment:
    • Requestor’s contact information (name, telephone number, and email address)
    • Name of the company performing the test
    • Property address for fire suppression system/insurance services organization
    • Preferred date and time (tests are typically conducted Monday-Friday, between 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.)

  • Per the DWWD R&R, Section 13, H, public outreach efforts (e.g., a published newspaper advertisement) must be conducted prior to the test. The District is responsible for coordinating all advertisements.

  • Per the DWWD R&R, Section 13, J, no tests shall be performed without the authorization of the District. Any person found using a hydrant illegally shall be fined $1,000 per occurrence plus the cost of water as determined by the district.

  • The District is responsible for operating all publicly-owned fire hydrants.

  • During the test, private hydrants are operated by the property owner or appointed designee.

  • District personnel will be present for all tests.

  • After the test is completed, you are required to submit the property’s hydrant flow test/fire pump test report to the district within two weeks of the test date. After the test, an automatic email notification will be sent to the appointment requestor. Failure to submit flow test results to the District within two weeks from the test date will result in forfeiture of the $100 refund and prohibit future tests.
