Request a Final Water Meter Reading

ALL FINAL READS must be requested online.
Please read over the policy below BEFORE you submit your request online.  

Final Water Meter Reading Policy

    • Final water meter read appointment requests MUST BE REQUESTED ONLINE via the District’s website AT LEAST 15 BUSINESS DAYS BEFORE YOUR CLOSING. Submissions that are missing the required information WILL NOT receive an appointment. Once a request is submitted online, a customer service representative will contact you to schedule an appointment.

    • The following information IS REQUIRED to receive an appointment from the District:
      • The property address for the final read
      • Date of Closing
      • If the property is a teardown
      • Requestor’s information (you must either be the homeowner, attorney, or realtor) name, telephone number, and email address.
      • Preferred appointment time
      • Current property owner’s forwarding street address, town/city, state, and zip code
      • New property owner’s name, telephone number, and email address. If the buyer intends to live at a different property address than the one they are purchasing (i.e., rental or investment property) please include a mailing address, town/city, state, and zip code.

    • Final water meter reading fees are:
      • $60 per each final read
      • $100 per each final read (if scheduled within 48 hours of the closing)
      • If the closing is moved after the District has completed the reading, you will be charged for EACH subsequent appointment

    • Any water meter/radio that is estimating OR over ten years of age IS REQUIRED to be changed out at the time of the final read.

    • Meters will be read no earlier than 3 BUSINESS DAYS before your property’s closing.

    • Appointments are ONLY conducted on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the morning, between 9 AM – 12 PM.

    • Please be sure that the water meter is FULLY accessible at the time of the appointment. No final bill will be furnished if the meter technician cannot access AND inspect the meter.

    • The homeowner, realtor, or attorney (over the age of 18 years old) must be present throughout the ENTIRE DURATION of the scheduled appointment.

    • Once the appointment is complete, the final bill will be available after 2 p.m. on the same business day. The bill MUST be picked up and paid in person (cash or check) at the Dedham-Westwood Water District, 50 Elm Street, Monday-Friday (excluding holidays) between 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. NO EXCEPTIONS! NO BILLS WILL BE RELEASED VIA EMAIL!

    • Once the bill is paid in full, a paid invoice copy will be sent by the District to the Sewer Department via email. Also, a copy will be provided to the customer upon request. Please remember the sewer bill is SEPARATE from your water bill and is produced by the town.

    • Any final bill balance not paid WITHIN THIRTY DAYS will automatically be transferred to the new customer’s account.

    • If you have an irrigation meter, please contact the town directly (phone numbers are listed below) for instructions on how to submit your meter reading. Irrigation meters are not read by the District.

Keep in Mind

  • If you have an online portal account, it will be automatically DEACTIVATED when your final is processed.

  • If you move to another property in Westwood or Dedham and you pay your bill through automatic bill pay (from your bank), you will be required to update your account information in order to continue making automatic payments for the new property.
