Fire Hydrant Flow & Pump Tests for the Week of May 4-8, 2026

The Dedham-Westwood Water District will conduct fire flow tests for contractors on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, May 5:
    • 688 – 700 Providence Highway, Dedham, at 9 a.m.

Fire hydrant flow and pump tests can cause water discoloration and temporary reductions in pressure and volume.  When a hydrant pump/flow test occurs, water main pipes will experience sudden changes in flow (direction). These changes in water flow often cause discolored water to nearby properties from where the test is being conducted. Discolored water is from mineral and sediment deposits inside the pipes being moved with the change in flow. The District does not recommend consuming discolored water.

When a test occurs near your property, we recommend paying close attention to the aesthetics of your water if you intend to use it for cooking, laundry, and bathing.

If you experience discolored water, please run your faucet on COLD at the lowest pressure point in your home until the discoloration clears. Leaving the water running will allow any sediment that may have entered your service line to work its way through the house.

Questions or concerns about these operations should be directed to the District at 781-329-7090.

Thank you for your cooperation!
