The Dedham-Westwood Water District will begin flushing water mains via hydrants in Dedham starting on Tuesday, October 6.
Flushing operations will be conducted in Dedham for approximately six weeks, typically Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. At times, flushing will also be conducted at night, Sunday through Thursday, from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Flushing may reduce water pressure and cause discolored water.
Flushing hours will be from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The following areas will be flushed:
Bridge Street (from High Street to the Boston City Line) and all surrounding side streets
The District conducts annual flushing to improve water quality and identify system deficiencies, such as low-flow water mains, broken gate valves, and broken hydrants.
Water main flushing can cause temporary reductions in water pressure and discolored water. Discolored water is from mineral and sediment deposits inside the water main pipes being “flushed”.
If you experience discoloration, please run the water on COLD at the lowest pressure point in your home. Leaving the water running will allow any sediment that may have entered your service line to work its way through the house.
If flushing occurs in your neighborhood, please monitor your water more closely for discoloration or reduced water pressure.
If you notice water discoloration, please avoid using your washing machine and dishwasher. Also, refrain from using any hot water.
